On Sixty Years of Research and Theorizing on Mass Communication

abstract
During the last 60 years of research, Ownership, Technology,
Content and Context were aspects of communication
media, which have been treated rather separately, as take-off
points for different kinds of theorizing. In this paper, based
on his Response to the Award of an Honorary Degree from
the University of Bucharest on 4 May 20l0, Prof. Elihu Katz
reviews the changes he has witnessed during his exceptional
academic life as a communication scholar, and indicates
certain issues that academia should address in the future.

Pendant les derniers soixante années, le Capital, la
Technologie, le Contenu et le Contexte ont été aspects de la
communication médiatique qui ont été, plutôt séparément, les
points de départ pour les différentes théories. Dans cet article
(a l’origine la Réponse lors de la réception du titre de Doctor
Honoris Causa de l’Université de Bucarest, le 4 mai 2010),
le professeur Elihu Katz passe en revue les changements
auxquels il a été témoin et moteur, pendant son extraordinaire
vie académique. De plus, Elihu Katz indique les questions
auxquelles la recherche devrait répondre dans l’avenir.
